Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hey Suzanne of Huckleberry Farms - and anyone else in SC,
I just got back from the Unifour Show in Morganton, NC. I showed my Ameraucana's for the 2nd time. I was the only exhibitor of the breed but I still like to get a judge's opinion on my birds. They did fine and he picked BB and RB like I would have expected which helps me to gain confidence that I am looking for the right traits in my breeding.

Do you show your Ameraucana and if so where? If if you have shown your birds, were there other exhibitors of Ameraucana at the show? It would be great to go to a show and actually meet other Ameraucana breeders and get to see someone else's birds for reference. I learn a lot of from winning and losing with other breeds so I would love to find more shows near me.

It took me awhile, too many pots on the fire, plus had to remember the title I had the link under. You may find the entire, ancient research publication by Punnet interesting; as these birds would probably be distant family to those the Ameraucana were later developed from.

Wow, interesting. Olive Eggers began before even Ameraucanas and Araucanas were "created." I didn't know people created Olive Eggers in tests in the 1930's.

Wow, me neither.

Jean posted something a few weeks back about tests they did with egg color- especially crossing dark layers into non-dark layers. I had guessed someone on the OE thread would end up with dark eggs, based on that research, and put the link over there. It was really interesting read!
I was reemed by another member (who likes to act like they invented olive eggers) repeatedly for the "ancient" literature, and was told the person was probably just going to get brown eggs. They ended up getting dark eggs like a marans.

THANKS to Jeremy for letting me know that there is a fraudulent auction on Ebay using a photo of mine.... a splash wheaten rooster.
last year somebody stole a blue egg photo of mine and used it on an ebay auction too.

I reported this listing to ebay and wrote to the seller.... here is the sellers reply....
"There's no fraud and nothing was stolen, but I have added another pic for my customer's.

Well, my photo is still on their auction... but they did add a second photo (probably not their bird either)

Peachick, really, I can't stand those people. They make me sick.

I think that I'm only ping to purchase BYC member's eggs/chickens from now on, unless the person is on the breeders directory for their breed.
