Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Looks like by demands of the family, I'll be dropping my entire breeding program/flock of BBS Ameraucanas. They're just not thrilling enough for the rest of the family. . . . However with great luck, the Buffs are staying because I paid for them, and they're appeasing to the fam. And my other project is staying too, because the family can't wait to see it completed!

LOVE LOVE those adorable lavender chick pics I saw earlier!!

I'm going to see about keeping my best blue hen around, because she's so beautiful and still useful for other projects. It will be really hard to let go of my two cocks though. I'm honestly contemplating even showing them this upcoming Monroe show though. Was going to enter one, but now that I'm not really breeding them anymore, what's the point?

And Ilia...exactly what Steve said - bring them to Monroe, show them and then sell them, OR just put them in a sale cage....

OK- serious question here! Say you buy eggs from supposedly good lines. The eggs arrive and 1/2 of them are practically white. What do you do?

My problem is- I already have really good egg color in my birds. Do I really want to add a line that might lay white eggs just to have more bloodlines?

Keep in mind- these eggs are NOT actually "white eggs"- I have one of those girls- but they are sooooo pale they might as well be.

We've all seen how much eggs are going for. I would expect for those prices to get eggs with some color. Ugh.

There was a recent thread about this on the ABC site, a breeder had it happening in a well established flock, I'll go copy what Mike Gilbert said about it and paste it here...brb....

Eh, there were lots of good comments / info about it, so here's the thread... http://ameraucana.org/abcforum/index.php?a=topic&t=1475 (I don't think directing to the ABC forum is breaking the rules here since nobody can post that isn't already a member....mods, let me know if I'm wrong please)..

What color variety did they come from?

Wheatens! Supposedly Blehm (line). This is the second time this happened to me this month- last time I didn't even set the white ones- I had a pretty full bator and I figured my lav eggs would be better served. When I cracked the white ones last time they were even white inside. I get a pale egg once in a great while- but I'd never send them to anybody! Sheesh. I don't know what to do.
