Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I've gotten a "white Wheaten" cockerel before. . . . Ugliest Ameraucana I ever saw in terms of body, honestly, and he had only one beard/muffs allele, and the hens from his hatch were carrying white as well. Not expressing it, but carrying it. You're lucky to have such a handsome fella! My white guy was very, very narrow, had hocks that nearly touched each other, had a weird, long, high set tail, and a tall, narrow comb reminiscent to a single comb. He honestly looked like someone laid him on his side and squished him.

Sorry Ilia; you just describe him so well I have this horrific visual of him in my head. While I would love to know how these "white wheatens" breed, he does not sound like a bird I would want to use to find out.

How much would you be willing to pay for one ?

Sorry, just kidding...... I thought it was funny that I was posting away about how lovely the egg color is out of these girls (and hopefully out of Norm's daughters, I shall find out soon) and when I finished posting I found your's about improving egg color through these funky white birds. Interesting idea indeed. I could not be more excited to see what kind of egg color I get out of this boy's babies.

I hadn't thought about how much, are you willing to part with norm?, I have some pretty girls that came from pips and peeps that I'm sure would find him handsome

I had a run of these white wheatens, also. Every one was a rooster. I have one more in my grow out pen. I have since gotten rid of that rooster that produced them, and since then havent produced any more. Really an oddity.

Actually I have one nearly full grown in my free range pen, just saw him. Oddest thing.

I think they have all been males. John even had some weird white looking chicks pop out of his blacks last year and I got one and it was a male.

He has some very dark blueish white chicks now, from his blacks. He thinks they will be blue, I think they will be white with leakage. You can see the thread on the ABC.

Jeb, you don't want to breed your birds to that white......

I just hope people realize it isn't the father to blame. It takes BOTH parents for it to happen.

In fact if it is sex-linked as it seems, then the female is more to blame than the male.
