Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Do any of you have photos.. of about 3-4 week old.. boys..

This way, I will have some idea what a boy wheaten / blue wheaten will look like.

I have a tub full of chicks.. LMAO/ and well, some are as friendly as can be, which leads me to think boys... and some are very standoffish

Their all coming in with same coloring all over. Nothing, different

I thought.. wheatens could be colored sexed around 3-4 weeks????

could some of you do comparison photos from your amerecuanas.. that turned out to be roos, and those that turned out to be pullets,

What did they look like as 3-4 week old chicks

Granted mine arent quite 3 weeks yet, just getting read though..heheheh

and some of mine.. have bigger leggs, I am noticing ...

I would like to start marking soon the ones I think are girls and the ones that our boys, I cant keep 11 amerecaunas

I would like to keep one boy and two girls

Cant hold onto them forever..hehehehe

Any with big splotches of black or blue on the back will be boys. Check the feathers on the back of the neck if they are still a little young- if you see lots of black or blue (NOT dark red) coming in- then they are males. Girls will have a paler blue in their down underneath, but for the most part they should be that creamy color with a little black or blue patterning on the outer edge wing feathers.

Awwww! No- those guys are too little. Give them another week and watch for big roundish black or blue feathers on the back. They look like they're only about 2 weeks.

Looks like they are going to go exploring! Cute babies, you might need to give it another week or so- when we hatched out our batch a couple of them fooled us! Here is a picture of one of our boys taken in March 4, 2011- they were hatched 2/14/2011.

I have a question regarding price. I'm considering selling a couple of my splash girls so I can hatch out more blues and blacks (need to make room). These are really nice girls from PipsnPeeps eggs. I easily sold the extra roos for $15 each. What should I charge for the hens?

Is that a 'California' price, do you think? I am in the midwest. I would LOVE to get that much for my girls!
