Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hello everyone,
I am newbie here and just purchased an Ameraicana. Being new at this, I thought they were all the same, but reading the posts, I can see they are all different colors and different lines of Ameraicana.
I got her with an Orpington and although she is smaller, she is growing her feathers by leaps and bounds compared to the other.
I was going to post a photo, but I don't see how..I will have to navigate this forum a little better. Anyway, if you go to the link you can see her.

Your pic didn't load but I tried opening it in a new URL and, well, your "Ameraucana" is actually an Easter Egger.

There are indeed different colors and lines out there, but those are of purebred Ameraucanas. Your cute little chick is a hatchery chick who's likely a crossbred, but will still be a lovely hen (hopefully) someday and lay green or brown or possibly blue eggs.

Oh thank you..yeah the sign said Ameraucana and the guy said they were as well, but also called Easter Eggers. She has a little beard growing..

Out of the four I have, (One Orpington, Two silkies) she is the sweetest and she hears my voice and comes over. The Orpington however, is a little too bossy britches.
I actually wanted one that laid Easter egg colors. I think she will do just fine.
Thanks for helping me out!

How do you tell the difference between and Ameraucana and a Easter Egger?

At chick stage - Any chick with brown chipmunk stripes, brown color in general, brown/black, or brown/gray color is an Easter Egger. Also anyone who just gets one or two or three, and with an assortment of common breeds automatically clues in on the chicks being from a feedstore, who despite what they claim, do not sell Ameraucanas.

As an adult, basically look at the recognized colors of Ameraucanas. If the bird does not fit those colors or Lavender and Splash (unrecognized but still real, purebred varieties) or has green legs, it is not an Ameraucana. Most Easter Eggers are easily spotted by their brown/black/gray coloration.

You will like your EE, I have one hatchery EE and she lays a huge blue green eggs. Much larger than my Ameraucanas. Sometimes she gives me double yolkers.

In purebred LF silver Ameraucana chicks, is the background down a light grey in color, or pale yellow? It's hard to tell from the chick photos on the Ameraucana website. As well, are the silver's chipmunk stripes red, chocolate, or black? Thanks.

They're usually quite similar to some Silver Laced chicks - They're a light silvery whitish gray with bold black stripes.

PHarris985 - Those are Ameraucanas.
