Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Did you have any bad poweroutages or anything? What temp is it? What's your humidity? I'm asuming they're shipped? Did you candle before lockdown?

I still had baby hatching like mad things on day 23-24..wouldn't unplug until day 28.

If none have pipped yet, I would candle them. A couple minute drop in humidity won't be an issue if there is no exposed membranes. You will be able to tell if any have internally pipped the air sac.

Right- that's what I do. You might have a cooler spot in your incubator that is making some of them develop more slowly. I usually mix multiple breeds/breeders eggs up so they aren't all "in one basket" so to speak. That way if there is a cool spot, at least some of everything will hatch on time.

If they have green legs they are EEs. It's very unlikely that you'd ever find an Ameraucana at a feed store, but they have EEs all the time. Still- they are not bad birds to have! I love my EEs

I can't really tell the color of the legs they are very light not pink not yellow more of a yellowy grey.but doesn't look green like the ee pullets I have. also have pink beaks.

Lets see...no power outages. Humidity at 40% for most of incubation and now 70%. They are shipped. I candled about 5 days before lockdown and removed any clear ones or early quitters (so defintiely some could be late quitters). I think the temp was a little low for the 4 or 5 days I was gone, maybe 97, so maybe that delayed things. I also have two eggs with partial zips that stopped, so must be having some sort of issue in there.

If I candled them tonight would an air cell be good, meaning they are just taking their time, or would no air cell be better...meaning they could pip soon? I don't remember from my readings how quickly they go from pipping the air cell to making the first pip in the shell.

thanks for the advice everyone! I will leave it plugged in a few more days.

Nooo! This is my first EVER broody!

I moved her last night into a dog crate and I've already ordered some eggs specifically for her to brood. I'm hoping so much that she doesn't decide to leave the nest.

I'm SO excited about the possibility of have a momma hen and chicks!

Oh I certainly will!
I'll probably have to buy a new SD card specifically for all of the momma and baby pictures I end up taking.
