Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So depressed. Still no pips in the Ameraucana eggs and I had to kill one of my half hatched Maran chicks. I think there were two, one half developed, preventing hatching. The guy zipped half way around and the membranes dried up. I tried to help him but I didn't know what was even going on there, nothing looked right, so I figured it was better to just put it down.

Boo. I am soooo just buying chicks from a breeder next year. Cheaper in the long run.

In happier news, my 4 week lav chicks are feathering out and one has some really pretty looking feathers on its wings(the other two look a little frayed). I will have to upload a picture of it sometime.

Anyone know about how old lavender Ameraucanas are before you can sex them with some degree of accuracy? Maybe 8-12 weeks? Older?

what a bummer ...... I had just filled my bator last night with some BW from WM, and some of my own BBS.....wife left for work at 1pm and said everything was fine, got home at 4 pm to find the high winds knocked the power out

the bator got back down to 87 before power kicked back on. Never had this one happen before....any ideas on what that may do to the hatch rate ?

Nice, Thank you! I'm not "supposed" to have roosters in my zoning but I may try to keep at least one until I get a complaint. My neighbors love chickens anyway

My blacks from Paul & Angela Smith have really nice egg color.

I have W/BW/SW chicks growing out from Paul & Angela, I cannot wait to see their egg color when my pullets reach POL.

Do you have any egg pictures you could share?

I'm so excited!! Went to purchase 200# of chicken feed today and came home with 5 Americauna and one black sex link chicks!!! JUST yesterday I told my husband we have too many chickens (24 hens/1 roo) and then today I come home with six more!!! I've so wanted blue and green eggs however, and that dang chicken math just hit hard!!! I'll try to post pics of my new babies tomorrow.
