Don't know why I just got this and am so far behind but thought I'd let you know, Jeremy, that I have a couple of EE's that look very similar. One has black in its tail and the other had blue. The mother was a New Hampshire and the father was either a Wheaten or Blue Wheaten. Maybe one of each. I had both in the lower coop and just set a dozen eggs or so in order to get something in the incubator early in the year. The leg color and peacomb are actually pretty darn good for EE's and the thought did cross my mind to see if there was an interest in creating some "red" variety.

But I pretty quickly decided against it. The WBS variety just needs to much work still. The WBS Ameraucanas really need some devoted people working with them. I don’t know if I’d say they need a lot of work but they definitely need some. They have a long way to go and there’s just too much of a temptation these days to latch on to the newest fad and go chasing after it, or coming up with some new one of your own, rather than sticking to one breed/variety and working on it. I have chosen to do the latter.

God Bless,

I know zilch about bantams; but can't help wondering about the muffs/beard when his tail is so far developed.

He looks more of an OE type body than the Ameraucana body.

Which is why I'm not saying anything. I know little of bantams, I personally would rather not delve into them because I find it seems impossible to get one to conform to the true LF standard (veer away from buggy eyes, dropped wing carriage, short back, OEG type tail, etc) and so when I see him I think he looks nice but there's something with the tail and head, but, I don't know bantams.

His beard/muffs seem pretty small though.

From the ABC site, this is the bird that I believe has the best type from the demonstration of the eight accepted varieties:

I would also say he is a bit "gamey". You can see it better with the almost side by side comparison.

PS I sent the banner today.

I think those two birds look VERY similar, color aside. Could/would someone elaborate on what they are seeing? What am I missing?

He is less "compact". The neck is a bit longer as is the body.

A better thing to ask is, how much does he weigh? There is the possibility that he could fill out more too. Alot of my LF cockerels don't finish out until 14 months unless they are spectacular.
