Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Speaking of buff, just have to show my hen from Pips&peeps off. She's finally done molting and beautiful again!

How a Buff Ameraucana looks among a flock of many other colors. Stunning.

And this is why I'm excited. She looked like this prior -

He is beautiful! I sure could use him! I did hatch 4 buff (Meredith) x wheaten (Pips & Peeps) chicks last Sunday. 3 are colored like wheatens and the fourth is a mix of buff and khaki. Can't wait to see how they feather in. So far their wing feathers look like female wheatens on the 3 and khaki on the fourth.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Pictures of them at a couple of days old. The black chick was an accident

One of my lavenders is laying a green egg that looks identical to the buffs!

Hi fellow BYCers! I'm looking for some imput- I recently bought some 'Americaunas' as young chicks to add to my flock. Im new to them, and was wondering if someone can tell me if they look pure..

Hoping I didn't spend too much just to get mixes.

Thanks for giving it to me strait Reyvaughn.. It's so hard to buy chicks local and know what you're really getting, unless you can see the whole flock. Can you tell as chicks if they're pure? I know some traits, dark legs, tufts..

Tufts are on Araucanas

You're thinking of beards.

The easiest trait to look for is avoid colors like brown/black or white/black mixes. Avoid hens/pullets who are gold, brown, and black or buff with black on them. Avoid roosters who turn out yellow and black or white and black. Avoid roosters who are mostly red or orange.

Avoid sellers who can't name the recognized colors. Try aiming for Blue, Black, Splash, Wheaten, or Blue Wheaten. Aim for birds who look almost or exactly like the photos shown from the ABC site.

Avoid green or yellow legs.
