Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have 3 bators going too! I am trying to get bluer eggs instead of green. I have b/b/s. It is a never ending struggle, that I enjoy :) You should try shipping. I live in PA, and ordered a rooster from Washington State. He arrived just fine. Its expensive, but well worth it.

THANKS!!
I am confused my self...I guess I kinda knew but wanted validation...not someone in 6 months going " hey the wheaten gene is dominate...those would be true amers" LOL

I am still trying to figure genetics out... plus I am new to Amers and went through alot of research to be sure on my Wheatens....I also have B/B/S growing out! when you said get a bator and eggs it was funny...I have 3 bators running!! I just want a POL hen NOW!! LOL

I have spent hours and miles and dollars trying to just find one more GOOD hen...I went ahead and got the EEs for EEs but now with the great egg color I will have to move them out of the Amer coop so I don't get my good egg mixed up...I do not want to think I am selling Amer and accidently have an EE!!!

Sorry, I didn't catch that question... Wheaten is recessive. It takes 2 copies for them to be wheaten. Even if the pullets are part wheaten, they would not pass the wheaten on to all the offspring.

That is one reason it is taking several breedings and heavy culling to get Lavender Wheatens..... both are recessive....

I don't think I want to try that project... not that I would not buy some hatching eggs when someone has some breeders ready.... They would be beautiful birds.....

I am scared of losing a bird...I do shipped eggs and most of my boxes arrive severly beaten!! We live very rural with not the best PO folks...plus all I find is roo's!! I have an AWSOME breeder close by and she will sell me eggs and chicks but I cannot talk her out of a started hen for NOTHING!! I am lucky to have the good blue eggs and my B/B/S all are from good blue eggs!

Maybe when mine start laying I can help by sending you some blue eggs if mine lay them to mix in your flock...I would think that may help??

I just want to say that I'm excited to have some Silver Ameraucana eggs in my incubator now. They are from Russ Blair. I had two nice silver pullets from John last year, but a raccoon got them. The silvers are my favorite color and despite what I've heard about them being difficult as a color, I'm looking forward to working with them. In a few weeks I'll be hatching some of my very own F1s in blue and black. My blue Ameraucana hen is 2 years old now and has the sweetest disposition of any of my flock. Back to lurking about the thread...

My black Ameraucana hen has slight reddish-gold smudges throughout, especially around her neck. She is supposedly purebred and from a breeder but I'm assuming that this coloring is not permissible for the breed standard...

You are assuming correctly. I would not use her for breeding. I also don't like her body type, she's really "gamey" looking...Compare her with this picture from the ABC site:
