Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Actually "fretting" is the poor feather quality you see on a lavender or self blue birds. I don't know if there is a term for that barring/off color that is plaguing the lavender ameraucanas.

Thank you for clearing that up. I haven't actually seen a lavender bird in person, so based off of the pictures I've seen in threads where fretting was discussed I assumed that it was the darker flecks. So a lavender bird can have fretting even with uniform feather color?

Is the fretting the sort of cuckoo look? If not what is it? I love learning new stuff!
Quote: LOL- no I am making actual lavender cuckoo as a side project. They have minimal fretting, if any, as compared to my original lavender birds. The descriptions the others gave have since answered that though ;)

The only off-color lavs I have seen are ones with leakage. There are probably some in the BST now with a leaky roo as the sire.. You don't want to do that or all of your birds will carry it. If I ever have one pop up with gold showing its sent to the EE or OE pen or sold as an EE.

Exactly! Your hens can carry it, and most likely do if your roo is thier full brother. You need to breed to blacks for improvement anyway, and finding nice blacks is alot easier than finding nice lavs.
If you can, buy from somebody that will sell you lavs AND splits., Then you know you are buying from somebody that is trying to improve them and not just cash in on a fad.

I think I have Ameracaunas-- posted some pics on the Aracauna thread but they said that the chickens weren't Aracauna's. Now that I looked at pics on the internet they sure look like Ameracaunas. Can you tell from my avatar if my Buffy is an Ameracauna? Thanks for your help! Kare
