Hi! We welcomed three new chicks yesterday (eventually joining our existing flock of 6), a little unexpectedly. We had ordered Aracaunas from our local mom and pop grain store, arriving next week; however, they called to ask if I wanted three chicks sooner because they had some cancellations and rescheduled from that week’s order. I was so excited I forgot to clarify what breed of chicks these are before leaving. It doesn’t matter to me other than we are hoping for egg color diversity, but I’m curious what your thoughts are! I /think/ she said Ameraucana on the phone, but I’m not sure if that was just a quick slip of the tongue.

They look like Easter eggers. Pure Ameraucanas come in specific colors, none of which matches your chicks. Hatcheries often sell Easter eggers as 'Americanas' just to confuse us, I guess. Easter eggers can lay many different colors but often it is blue or green, so hopefully those are the colors yours will lay.
Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. They have a home even if they are the percentage that lay brown eggs like most of the rest of ours, but hoping we will get some color added in!

I’m curious if you will really get Aracauna chicks. They are hard to get pure, and one of the reasons the Ameraucana breed was developed was bc of the genetic issues in Aracauna which causes a certain pct to die before hatching. Anyway, if you get some, that is great.

I doubt anything is too pure! This is just a local grain store and while they had a whole printed catalogue they put together with labels for breeds and photos to order from, it’s New Hampshire so anything goes 🤣

Just updating with some photos! :)
