Ameraucana vs Easter Egger

I have americaunas and they seem to have wonderful temperament.

I had a small flock of both, 3 EE's and 3 Americaunas. All 6 were very friendly up to the point of picking them up, they hated that. The Am's laid pretty blue eggs, the EE had an olivey green color and pink.

I would love to get more AM's some day, as soon as I get my pen back in order.

I have 4 EE's (bantams) and I get 2 blue, 1 olive green, 1 pinkish brown. They are the sweetest.

My EE is the calmest and quietest of my three hens. Love her!

Here is a black Ameraucana cockerel from Pips&Peeps stock.

Gem, my first EE from Ideal. I'm suprised that she isn't Quechua-type, from what I've read you're more likely to get such from hatcheries. She is by far the heaviest bird I own - nearly 8 pounds.

My gorgeous (but deceased, sadly) F1 cross EasterEgger. I loved Faun, the most friendly and beautiful EE that I've ever owned. I miss her greatly.

My first EasterEgger roo, turned out to be Bantam. He went home with Jenski and is making some beautiful little babies.

I have 2 EE's and one Ameraucana. The Ameraucana was bought as a 2 yo hen and is not docile because she came from a breeder (lots of chickens, was not handled).
My 2 EE's are not as skittish but not my friendliest either.
Hands down, my most friendly chickens are the Salmon Faverolles though none of them are mean and I can pick up all of them except the new girl.

My advice: if you want a guarantee that you will get a colored egg, it's the Ameraucana only. The EE's carry the blue-egg gene but they are NOT a standard breed and can lay any color, there is NO guarantee you will get a blue or green egg from an EE.
If you get the Ameraucana (which is a recognized breed) get it from an actual breeder. If you buy from an online hatchery or the farm store, it is an EE, despite what the sign says.

To increase your chances that the bird will be friendly, get them as little fluffy chicks and handle them!

QUESTION... Why do all your girls have beautiful muff and beards?? Mine get "Groomed" by the others so their pretty extras are almost nonexistent. SUGGESTIONS????

Are you asking the difference between Splash Wheaten and Wheaten, or Splash and Wheaten?
