I purchased this little cutie at Tractor Supply labeled as an Ameraucana. I know they’ve been known to label their chicks wrong so am wondering if someone can confirm this? Or do I have an Easter Egger?

The farm down the street from me has Amerucuan and they don't sell them for less than $25. That's a cute little EE... I love my EE, but I also can't wait to get my Amerucuan later.
$25 for chicks is ridiculous, especially for straight run. Are they even NPIP? That would just be pure GREED! :duc I KNOW how much it cost to collect good stock, grow them out and hatch the eggs. You can buy the real thing directly from John Blehm at Fowlstuff.com for $8 each. (Yes there is a 25 minimum and they are still straight run. But that includes shipping)

$25 for a pullet is a great but average price regardless of breed. :)

Any true Ameraucana will ALWAYS be sold with their variety specified, like Lavender, black, blue, wheaten, buff, and so on. Anyone who doesn't know their variety isn't breeding to a standard and would be considered mongrels. (Just info for those who don't know that) :pop

Interesting. My neighbor has Lavender ones. And I take that back... she's offering them for $15, all straight run.
Its the hatching eggs, she's asking for her breeds from $15-$25/dz depending on the breed. She has Lavender Orps, Lavender Ams, Copper Marans, OE, and Silkies.

ETA I'm not planning on getting chicks until next year, so I have time to find a breeder for what I want.

So most feed stores including TSC, aren't chicken (or even animal) experts. Some employees literally have zero experience with farm animals and give the worst possible advice, that they are repeating simply out of not knowing any better. ALWAYS get a second opinion on ANYTHING you are told there! :old Therefor they label the chicks as what they are told they are from the hatchery. Some hatcheries DO disclose on their website that their "Ameraucana" are NOT for showing and are simply a "representation" of the breed.

And also, TSC may not have mislabeled (per say), but accidentally mixed up the chicks during placement into the bins. They are one of the biggest culprits for this... But I wonder if that's also because they are one of the biggest national type stores that sells chicks, and people don't report their LFS mix ups nearly as much.

Does your little cutie have a friend or two? If not and it isn't being tucked under a broody mom... I suggest you hurry down and get 1 or 2. :)
