I kept looking at Welsummers when I was choosing which breeds to buy.

They are good birds. I currently have 5. Very docile. I was really busy when I was raising them, so they were not handled often. They are still friendly though.

I am still waiting for them to lay.

Go Cow! Go! Lay blue!

I am betting on blue. Green is rare. I am breeding for green right now so fingers-crossed for me too!

Green isn't actually that rare. All it takes is a little brown pigment.

In a hatchery it seems to be quite rare. I am not talking about a tiny bit of green tinge. More of a green or olive.

I can see why it can be more rare though. Makes sense.

Very pretty Easter Egger! McMurray is infamous for mislabeling them as Ameraucanas. Quite frustrating actually because it confuses many new owners and owners less familiar with breed standards

To put that into context, out of 8 of my Easter Eggers, all lay blue except one who lays green.

Exactly!! I don’t like to be misled. I would have happily purchased her if they had just said that she is an Easter Egger, as long as I know she has a good chance of laying blue eggs. But, I wouldn’t have traded her for anything! She’s actually the sweetest acting chicken we have. My husband spoils her because she is the lowest one in the pecking order in their pen.
