"Ameraucanas" and Hatcheries

But then wouldn't they just make a pretty penny off selling them? As it is, most hatcheries don't charge an extraordinary amount for the easter eggers as ameraucanas.

I think its because theres the "true" ameraucanas, and then theirs the Easter Egger Ameraucanas. And Most people use Easter Egger more then Ameraucanas.

But a breed is a breed is a breed. I don't think many people order chicks from a hatchery for show chickens. It's not like you won't get an ameraucana chick if it's got an amereucana hen and an ameraucana rooster as it's parents.

Yep, I think the big thing is because people relate more to thinking they get a purebred chick, yet at the same time they don't care what its quality or geneaology is. It is like how people want "purebred heritage" breeds like Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds, yet they go to a hatchery, not realizing they're getting run of the mill production layers like everyone else has. But in the end they don't really care. They want egg layers. Which is funny, because then why else are they asking for heritage breeds? The same reason people want "organic" foods. . . For the image it gives them.

Boo. That's just dumb.

I wanted Ameraucanas and I got easter eggers instead.

I figured it was something like "they're harder to hatch" or "the roosters are fickle" or something like that. Not "nobody really cares enough" *sigh*
