Ameraucanas

Hi, my oldest EE is 7 yrs. She still lays 3-5 a week in the summer. I'll have to keep track this winter, didn't realize the older they got the less they layed. Guess my older girls don't realize it either.

I have mixed results. I have two Blue Wheatens that lay my largest egg and give me an egg almost every day - but they also lay my lightest colored egg. One of them being almost white at times.

On the other hand I have two Wheatens that lay a bit smaller egg but lay my deepest blue egg. However, they also lay less frequently than the others.

I currently have one of them in with a Blue Wheaten rooster and the potlicker hasn't given me an egg in over a week. She molted pretty heavily a month or so ago and I'm hoping she'll lay anytime.

I am hoping that my breeding efforts this year will result in darkening up the light-colored layers as well as increasing the production of the light-laying birds. I should start seeing some of my results in just a couple of months but will have to wait several more months to see all the results.

Egg size, color, and production frequency are things I am looking at as well as the APA SOP.

God Bless,

Do have an idea about eggs/per week on then Ameraucanas? I sell at farmers markets, and need to plan my hatches so keep enough for my egg needs, while hopefully still being able to keep a large flock of my pure ameraucans

I have four purebred Ameraucana hens and two Easter Egger hens, so six blue or green egg layers altogether. From those six girls, I get 4-6 tinted eggs per day. It's rare I ever get less than 4 blue or green eggs on any given day, very rare. The oldest is two and a half, then her daughter is two, then the rest are over a year old.

Thanks speckledhen, good to know.
