Hey hey. I have just been looking up araucana in my chicken book, and I see where people get mislead. Ok 1st its a British book and though the authors may have grown up on farm its not the 1st discrepancy that I have found. The pic has a tailed bird and mention of a head crest with the tailed variety and also a beard. So they say the rumpless is more akin to the original breed from chile, and they do make mention of the ameraucana saying it lol looks just like the tailed araucana so here is where a lot of people are going to be mislead.

These are a few of the baby chicks I ordered from McMurray hatcheries. They were sold as Araucanas to me. Not sure if they really are. Doesn't matter to me, I just bought them to be our layers. Just wanted some opinions. I tell everyone they are EEs because it is just easier that way. Love them just the same.

I have had EEs for many years. I even remember when they started the Ameraucaunas. (hate that name to hard tp spell, thank god for copy paste) But back to the subject. anyway was at Stockton chicken show a couple years back when I came to the Ameraucauna section. Big pretty blue ribbion on this pretty wheaten type hen I really like the hen. She had the prettiest brown pink more brown egg in the cage with her. My second trip around the egg was removed. I had to chuckle to my self.

My colored egg layer are all very good layer and very smart when it comes to dangers in the open areas. They all come running for the safety of the house.
I just put Ameraucauna eggs in the incabator I bought online all blue. The waiting has begin.

with my EEs I get beautiful eggs I love Murphy hatcheries EEs Been buying from them for 40 years. I even think they but a note on their chicken (these are not show stock) I look at it this way we are all not show people. It happens in horses , dogs and chickens and even coins. The old saying my dog is better than your dog. I see that in anything that shows. If you get a brown , pink or even olive color egg occasionally so what if your in for eggs. I have one that lays a beautiful grY GRAY EGG. mY Egg customiers love the varision of colors.
I am show persons night mare love to cross breed chickens to see the next generation egg color. yet I keep purebreds in pens to keep them straight. I feel sorry for them because my free ranging chickens have so much fun running loose. Of course than the neighbors rhode island has to come over to add to the gene pool if my easter egger rooster doesn't see him to run him off.
chicken are so much fun.

My first EE's were from Murray McMurray, and for months I had a long confusion if they were "Americanas" or Araucanas. Turns out they were neither.

I was pretty sure, but since they knocked our blacks down to 3rd and 4th, well I just had to ask.

Out of 10 "Ameraucanas", if you include the 2 bearded/tailed "Araucanas", our 2 were the only recognized Ameraucanas entered. Last year all the non-standard or EEs I saw were DQed, but this judge I guess feels differently. I could see for anyone showing AMs how it could get really annoying and for those showing EEs or non-standard AMs confusing. You could win, you could get DQed and you'd never know for sure until judging started.
