Ameraucaunas

APA (2010) recognized colors are Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Buff, Silver, Wheaten, and White. I'd recon there are other colors being bred as well.

As far as the rest goes, they are a dual purpose fowl. I have not raised them, so I will let someone else more familiar with the breed talk about that in detail.

From what I have read, they are average layers and hens of most breeds are calm and friendly. Cockerels and cocks temperment comes down to individual strains and even individual birds. A good breeder culling man aggressive traits should have good calm males.

I have blue, black and splash ameraucanas. They lay a medium to large slate blue egg about every other day. They are calm and friendly and although they don't really like being picked up they will tolerate it and will hang out near me whenever I am in the yard.
