I didn't read all the posts, but as a Christian and a member of a Southern Baptist church,[you notice, I didn't identify myself as a Southern Baptist] here's my take on it. Baptism is strictly for the the fact that you recognize who Christ is and accept his sacrifice for the sins of all humanity. You are being baptized into Christ, not into a particular denomination, sect or religion. That is what church membership is for; an agreement to abide by their particular set of doctrinal rules.
