Generally they lay half what a layer breed lays and most will try to set and hatch their eggs at least once a year. All gamefowl do well loose. You’ll still lose them all if you don’t pay close attention to what’s going on.

If you’re looking to cross gamefowl with layers to add “survivability” there’s better options that won’t leave you dealing with aggressive birds.
Straight gamefowl would give you the best option for surviving but the roosters will fight as they become mature. Depending on how much room you have you might only be able to have 1 rooster.
I'm just now doing a quick glance about Iowa Blue since I'm not familiar with them.
). She does pretty good at foraging, but she has really observed and hung with my GF hen and chicks. Starting out, she did o.k., but it seemed like she needed to "learn". The GF hen is excellent, but that's do to how she was raised and bred (Thanks Havoc!) My point is, I think a lot of layer breeds have a huge learning curve, even though this pullet is 1/2 game, she doesn't have near the instincts that a full game seems to have right off the bat.
