Looks like yal had a blast brother, great looking fish to.
Yeah buddies that big brown was caught when we was about to leave I probably casted in that area 30 times. I then headed down stream about 300yds or so and worked back and on the 3-4 cast in the initial spot I started in he hit an handmade bubble bee spinner like a brick! Definitely a good outing!

We have been a few other times and me and the wife went also to some HS waters and I kept 4 to eat here’s a few of the others. Been catching everything on spinners and I think one on a little Lucy and one on a crappie torpedo jig.

Ok guys.... I have a question. I have a group of adopted Game hens whom I let roam around my barn rather than put them in the coop with my other flock. I have a spare Roo (GLW) who "adopted" them once he became sexually mature. They roost in the rafters of the barn at night. About a week and a half ago, I realized one was missing. A quick search uncovered the missing hen has become broody and sitting on a clutch of eggs that she has hidden behind a bunch of stacked lumber. She is very well hidden from any potential predators (there's a stray tom cat that comes around) and from weather elements. I have no idea how many eggs she is sitting on. Then about 2 days ago, ANOTHER game hen also became broody. The 2nd hen has chosen a spot in the hay manger in one of my horse stalls. I knew they were laying in the manger and had just cleared 7 eggs out of it the day before so if she is sitting on ANY eggs it is likely only 1 or 2. My concerns/questions are:

1) The hay manger where she is nesting is about 4 ft off the ground. If she hatches out chicks, aren't they in danger of falling out of the nest and getting stepped on by my horse? (Since it is spring, my horse isn't really eating hay out of the manger as she prefers the fresh grass....) Should I move the broody along with any eggs she is sitting on? Not sure where to put her if I do....

2) We are going out of town for 5-6 days in May. I think the 1st broody will have hatched her clutch by then, but the 2nd broody will likely be hatching while we are gone. I have someone coming to take care of the animals while we are gone but this individual knows little to nothing about chickens. Is there anything I should be aware of in regards to the 2nd broody hatching chicks while I'm gone since she isn't in an enclosed coop?

Thanks!

So the broody who had a clutch behind the woodpile is no more.... 😔 Something must have found her in the middle of the night. She is gone and all the eggs are crushed and eaten....
Yeah if you’re not willing to kill a decent amount of raccoons, possums, fox, coyotes etc..around your property then broody hens need to be put up somewhere they’re safe.

I have no problem killing/capturing predators. I really thought she'd be safe where she was at... I'm surprised something found her. Given where the eggs were found, it was clearly a coon, possum, or maybe a small skunk. I know a fox or coyote couldn't have gotten back there...

The hole to get to where she was sitting was really small with several large obstacles in front of it. Stacked lumber all around it... However there is a spot further back on the side of the barn where something small dug under the barn wall. If something came in from that direction, it could have sneaked up behind her although she still would have been difficult to reach because of the lumber. The eggshells were found well behind the lumber and under a bunch of hardware cloth and chicken wire scraps.... I think whatever got her came under the barn wall from the small hole.

:he:thThat'll jus pi$$ ya off. I usually get one to set for 2 wks then a snake eats the eggs then another week and again before finding the snake, Then she stops after a week or 2. Her 4th or 5th week of actually setting.
