American Gamefowl

You had guineas before didn’t ya? Howed they do with actual gamefowl? Been thinking bout getting a few for meat and eggs.
Yeah I have and I would not recommend it. The males will fight with the roosters. They ain’t no slouch either. They’ll get their *sses handed to them but they can take a beating. They will mess with penned and corded birds too. Way more trouble than it’s worth.

That’s what I needed to know. I Didn’t want some crap starting, I wouldn’t care bout the sound but can’t have em teasing my roosters… appreciate it.

Guess a fella could pen em like these chickens?

May just get some regular chickens and pen em. Gamefowl taste good just ain’t a lot on em and egg count sure ain’t what a layer is. We’ll see what the cardiologist says come Thursday gamefowl are a plenty for right now.
What about Quail?
I've thought about them-the Hubs looked at me cross-eyed. Will visit that thought again though😝

Small batches of Cornish X?

Hope your appt goes well.

I’ve ate quail and pheasant they are both good but I haven’t a clue how to go about them or what’s hardy vs winter.
Yeah idc what kind of laying/meat chickens they are really just something to raise for eating and what not.

They’d have to be penned too only reason I thought guineas was I’ve heard they taste pretty good themselves.

Well. It's been a while since I looked into Quail but the one thing I didn't like, it seemed you'd constantly need to incubate if you wanted to raise for meat, since the little hens really don't sit.

A lot of folks do meat chickens, I've not. You could look into some of those Rangers that are supposed to do pretty well, but I'd say cockerels might have to be butchered fairly early or they may harass penned roosters.

Of course, you've raised layers, so you know them. Probably the easiest thing to do if you have a place to keep them.

More biddies and working a little on my thunder chicken too. This gal has stolen her sisters chicks twice now.
