I just caught a 3-4 ft black snake in the basement Monday... The good news is I saw him getting in through a knot hole in the band board that ran next to the back porch, so I filled that...
I’ve been getting a random snake down there once every summer and couldn’t figure where they were coming in.

Well, I know where they are going in, it's an outside pumphouse easy to get in, sort of fascinating watching a snake climb a stucco wall. I just never find where they overwinter in there, probably a way under the slab. I tell ya though, come spring it's a bit creepy to see a bunch of snakes coming out of there and sunning themselves. Every couple of years I might thin them out, but for the most part they leave for the creeks, woods, orchard and field once it warms up. If I have one hanging out too long and I have chicks...he gets some help moving on via a ride to the creek and getting flung across into the orchard
