American Gamefowl

Not at all. I knew that before I bought it though. It has a courtesy grind and the head was dipped in a coating too. It’s all safety type stuff for shipping and keeping them clean. Although the high end Granfors Bruks come hair popping sharp.
Council tools axes come with unfinished handles and a sharper bit but the head is just painted where the snow and Nealleys is polished.

Ok, I figured that was the case... that’s not really a big deal either way, I just thought maybe the mail order might be different...at the hardware store they’re not really ever sharp I guess for the reasons you mentioned ... I have a gransfor and like you said it showed up with a screaming edge... I wouldn’t mind having another small axe to carry on the tractor... so was kinda interested in that one after you posted

After I finish the handle I’ll sharpen it up and put it to use and we’ll see how it does. I like the size a lot. It’s perfect for carrying, camping trips etc. As a matter of fact I may go on a trip next week for a few days. Gotta check the weather it’s getting cold and I’ll have my son and puppy with me. Should be able to test it out pretty well.

I may get the 18 inch handle Hudson Bay council tool axe/hatchet too. The problem is they used to come with the leather mask and now they don’t. It just irritates me. I guess I’ll just buy a leather mask for it but it won’t be from them. It’s annoying.

Don’t be chopping up the kid and dog just to test a new axe, you freak :gig ( too twisted? ... I’m blaming Ozzy  )

I think the one I have is 18” overall and yours is 24” if I recall... that’s just a comfortable swing for a chore axe ...

I used to have a “boys axe” that was a bit longer and it was good too but longer...

The head fit is probably what’s most important to me... the edge I’m gonna have to work either way after I abuse it

Yeah I figure most heads are gonna be ok as long as it stays tight. I’m sure if you look hard enough you’ll find broken handles and loose heads from all of them sooner or later.
I don’t have a Granfors but I was thinking about the actual small carving hatchets. The problem is I don’t really need it. I can do what I need to with a $20 fiskars Hatchet. It’s one of those things you don’t know how bad you need it til you try one. Lol
