American Gamefowl

I have them in the yard... in the late summer I can sit on the porch and watch them glide from one tree to another in the yard light...

They have an interesting thing they do... when they land on the lighted side of the tree they immediately scurry to the shadowed side, which makes it hard to get a good look at them ...

I know they’re there by their calls more than seeing them most of the time
Ahh that’s pretty cool. I haven’t seen that many. I’m not sure if I have any here in the yard or not. I’ll have to take a look sometime. I’m usually looking for chickens in the trees or chasing something away at night.

Their calls are real bird like... I’m a bird geek and know most of our common bird calls by ear ... but years ago I kept hearing this bird at night I couldn’t place, and it was driving me crazy ... it finally clicked what it actually was when I saw them gliding through the yard light...

Also a read that the southern subspecies is slowly displacing the northern subspecies ... so you better tell your yankee flyers to get busy making more babies or you’ll be covered up in Dixie flyers soon ;)
