I did a 5 window chevy for a older guy he did some questionable things like the grill color, but the bed on it was many pieces and that didn't include putting in the wood floor. Blocking/hand shaping those front and rear fenders took some doing as he didn't wanna replace them a ton of metal work into these old things but I will say even 60+ years the metals workable and not junk like nowadays.

No I think someone didn't wanna spend the dough on the bed and or wanted to be different but it could be done to look great just not what they have going on.

That was kinda my thought... sometimes some of those ideas work, that one didn’t, at least for me...

It does have a lot going for it... termite resistance isn’t one of them. Lol

You see all these nice straight flawless cars well back in the day that's not how they came off the show room floor. Back then metal stamping wasn't spot on so you'd have mud (bondo) in brand new stuff. Gaps weren't perfect and orange peel was what ya got. But they were solid and probably what I miss most I've done some nice stuff and still get asked too but unless I had my own shop I wouldn't work under or for anyone doing it ever again.

They really were built like tanks compared to all the plastic and thin sheet of today

Safety is fine and what they say is the reason. But that being said I've did rust repairs on vehicles 3-4 years old that's pretty shotty no matter how you slice it. Y'all wouldn't believe this but back when the smart car came out it was one of the safest cars built it was the size that would kill you instead of plowing a guard rail it would ride it cars have came along ways but we could take some of the ways the older stuff was done and apply it in my opinion.
