Fish don’t bite offshore tied flies on Tuesdays.
That’s a pretty stream. I’m jealous. I may go to Maine in a week or two. I’ve got quite a few chickens that need care though.
Have you ever tried very simple snowshoe and deer hair emergers. I’ve caught more trout on those two simple flies than all others combined. Throw in a parachute hares ear for a dry and call it good. I’ll fish nymphs but not until I’ve finally given up on everything else. Lol
Lol. Nobody catches them every day. If they did it wouldn’t be fun. Generally imo emergers and parachutes being taken as emergers work a little better than traditional dry flies. I do use them both though.I’m not sure I’ve tried those exact patterns... but I will now... I’ll tell the trout Mr. RoosterHavoc said they should bite on them... and I’ll probably catch them all!
Don’t take my being able to name a couple of my favorites as me really knowing my way around a fly shop... it’s a casual effort on my part and these are stocked trout that see kitchen sink offerings float by them all day... my buddy is a bit more of a trout bum and even goes to Colorado after them...
I’m generally as happy to float a different local stream and catch 12” smallys on woolybuggers and streamers.... or pan fish with popping bugs at our pond... but since we have this spot just 5 miles away I chase a trout from time to time.
I turned around and realized what happened. I landed that fish on 6x tippet and just kept going from there for bass. Many people don’t realize when they see bass jump they’re chasing bugs. It all kinda clicked then. Now I have more feathers in my house than I do outside.
My kinda fishing buddy! I’ve went to some pretty extreme limits to catch a few fish. Looking back it’s kinda dumb but I continue to do it. That next cast could be a big one.
