American Gamefowl

Looks alone the top birds legs look more centered and his back angles more like I'd like which puts his legs at a better position to keep his body out of harms way. Young birds are hard to judge i at least like to give them 8 months before I'll do anything unless obvious issues with birds.

All so true! I try to cull as I go for the obvious stuff, but some keep sticking around. The pic I posted earlier, of the little cock and hen, I liked him when he was a youngster after he slammed his nest mate into the wall. Then he took on a stag twice as big and really took a beating. He was a lot more cautious after that. I keep thinking I should cull him, but he just won't quit now. Great with the hens and chicks, better to the chicks than some hens.

This birds wasn't the prettiest stag out of 6 last season, but he has came a good ways and a dang good bird never misses. He wouldn't have been my choice as far as looks go, but as they say never judge a book by its cover. I'm growing him and his brother out and I will probably end out with just one.

If I were you I’d hold on to a few backups just in case ya know with the varmints and all. :gig

I know that egg production isn’t the reason you guys keep American Gamefowl, but let’s say you have 2 really good hens everything’s the same except that 1 hen lays 2 dozen eggs a year and the other lays 6 dozen eggs a year would you guys cull the hen that lays less eggs in favor of the hen who lays more eggs?

Lol thanks for the reminder bud. I'll take that chance both are pretty good birds, but main deal is to find what nics with the blacks and mugs the rest is just here just incase. Once I find what works and doesn't then I'll go from there.

Nope in my eyes breed both and see who throws the best offspring it wouldn't come down to egg count I'd bet on it.
