I pulled the hen out of the pen with her 6 chicks. The stags are bigger than her now. She’s such a good hen but was getting irritated.
I can’t let her out loose without watching her with all the younger birds. She likes to calmly walk up to the others acting like she’s feeding and then go all postal on them with hardly any warning. Lol

Is she the same hen you have shared pics of for the past few years? Seems like they are generally pics with chicks.

Yeah that’s her. She’s probably my best hen at hatching and raising them. Problem last year is she set up shop in my shed at night. She would free range all day and then wait on the ramp for me to let her in the shed.
I tried leaving the door shut hoping she’d go sleep in the trees but she wasn’t having it. Plopped right down on the ramp. That’s an issue in winter since some days no one was home til after dark and there she was just waiting.

They are very smart birds! I have a young hen this year that I really like, but she is a terrible mamma. Lays big clutches and hatches them too, but after a week with babies, she is up on the roost wondering why they are on the ground crying for her...

Are his ma and pa blue, or is one a splash and one a blue? I like the looks of him so far.

I got the silver whites before and one actual grey stag when I put him over the white hen which is the momma aboves Ma. And he's the momma aboves Pa aswell.
In the past I got 2 silver white stags, one grey stag, two Wheaton pullets one willow legged one pearl, two silver white pullets both yellow legged. As you can see both stags this year completely different on leg color aswell.

They are very smart birds! I have a young hen this year that I really like, but she is a terrible mamma. Lays big clutches and hatches them too, but after a week with babies, she is up on the roost wondering why they are on the ground crying for her...

So will you allow her to hatch chicks next year?
