That was going to be my very next comment.
They make you jump through so many hoops to even adopt a shelter animal for most logical people it's not even worth it!
Someone I know tried adopting a German shepherd from a shelter. . they wanted more information than the Irs.
Plus the fees.
Plus immunisation and vet records for their outdoor BARN cats.
They ended up saying forget it and bought one from a breeder for less money.

Yep. I get they’re trying to make sure the dogs aren’t gonna come back but it’s ridiculous. I was looking at a few Doberman rescues for awhile and omg they’re even worse. Most of the dogs are a result of terrible breeding and or terrible owners. They almost all come from backyard idiots that don’t know what they’re doing.
Respectable breeders usually make you sign a contract where they’ll take the dog back. It’s usually stated in the contracts that you’re not able to turn them in to a shelter, sell or trade them to anyone without their approval. Sounds crazy but I get it. Whether or not it’s really enforceable would depend on the breeder and if they actually wanted to take the time and spend the money to go after someone. Then again if you spent a decent amount of money on the dog you’d be crazy to turn them into a shelter.

I don’t think treating animals “humanely” and taking excellent care of them can be taught. You either know it or you don’t really care.

I’ve seen some that require a home inspection and all! Are you kidding me? Then again I can only imagine some of the the total doofuses that go try to adopt a German Shepherd when they’ve never had a dog before.
I have seen some answers to some breeders questionnaires. You would not believe some of the responses.
“Oh we’re just gonna let the 8 week old puppy run around the house while no one is home.”

Adopted two cats last year and she had to let them do a home inspection!! It took weeks I think for her to get approved.
I couldn't believe it. . . they should be begging people to take cats home. Not making it an act of Congress. Good grief

Yep. The adoption people were supposed to do a home inspection & said it would be weeks until they could get out here. I was completely obnoxious about it & showed up at the adoption place everyday to sit with one of the cats because he was depressed & wouldn’t eat. After 5 Straight days they let me have them with no inspection (I think they were trying to get rid of me.) They said they’d eventually do the home inspection & if I failed it they wouldn’t take the cats back, they’d only make me fix whatever was wrong. They never showed up.

I couldnt adopt battery rescue chickens because I had rooster(s).

We applied to adopt a pug from a pug rescue once. We brought our pug to meet the other pug. The two dogs loved each other & the foster family loved us so we paid the $75 “application fee.” The owner of the pug rescue (an enormous woman) took our money & said thank you, but your dog is overweight & I’d never let you have one of mine. It was unreal, kinda ironic & I felt completely scammed. The foster family looked like they were gonna cry when we drove away.

All of that is so ridiculous. That’s why I haven’t messed with any shelter in a long time.
Just from reading the descriptions and requirements it seems ridiculous. These people act like they are the only ones who can care for an animal. Kinda defeats the whole purpose.

She took my money and shooed us off empty handed. It was a horrible scam.
