There’s is no excuse for any of the accidents. Tree stand falls, mistaken identity, dog stepping on trigger and shooting hunter etc..
Can’t buy a safety harness but has no problem picking up a case of beer every other night.
I know a guy that fell out of his tree stand and shattered his ankle. He’s in his 50s and walks with a limp now. He knew better and made no excuses though. It’s a pain to use a climbing belt with some stands but the harnesses aren’t bad at all nowadays. They’ve come along damn way.

Statistically apparently most firearm “hunting” accidents happen at the car/truck as people are distracted and handling/loading/unloading

When I go out with my wife, my rule is when she’s handling her rifle... I stop doing whatever I’m doing and wait so I don’t distract her... and then I ask “is it safe” or say “make it safe” about 5 times from the time we start to the time we get back in the truck...

Some of that might be because she’s made the joke about insurance policies and hunting accidents a lot, and she likes to watch those real life murder mystery shows ... and seems to aways be taking notes on how the person got caught

We’ll drive hunting is legal here. Why I have no idea. Nothing like a bunch of pot bellied pumpkin suits whooping and hollering through the woods. To me that’s not hunting at all. They’re shooting at running deer every time. Pretty sad if you ask me.

The whole “hunt club” deal is another thing I’ve always wondered about. I don’t want to hunt deer and then go sit around with a bunch of fat old men having a circle jerk. That’s not my idea of a good time.

I don’t like to be around more than two guns at a time... mentally I’m always watching the other guy... but add another and I’m just too on edge...

The number of times someone has swept me with their barrel, and then comes back with “its unloaded” when I call them on it is surprising too...

I give them a little speal on “single points of failure” real quick...

I kinda instinctively grabbed a barrel and forced it toward the ground one time in Cabelas, when some guy pointed it my way as I was walking by their used gun rack...

It freaked him out and I apologized to him, but told him if you’re gonna sweep a barrel inches from someone’s face you’re lucky you didn’t get popped in the mouth...

In Northern Missouri and Iowa I know this is tradition, and it’s because the farmers would be harvesting during hunting season, so they would get the whole family together and do a drive and fill the freezer in one day, because time is short then...

Iowa allows “party hunting” too where anyone in the group can fill any of the tags...

Not my thing but I do understand the tradition of it for farming families at least...

I actually did grab an M4 from a guy on a live fire range once. I grabbed it with one hand and shoved him with the other. Thankfully a few other people saw why I did it so I didn’t get in trouble. The stupidity is amazing.
I always see these guys duck hunting with like 6 guys. 2 problems with that. Like you said too many guns waving around and of course you’re gonna hit em. 6 guys shooting there’s thousands of pellets in the air with each volley. “Ahh but we’re making memories!”
