American Gamefowl

I would train him to run possums. I gotta hunch the possum pelts are gonna fetch a premium over the next few years. Actually I think I read it in the Farmers Almanac. ;)

:yesss: I’m gonna be rich!

If his line was worth anything but looking at he doesn’t need to be trained for that...

The more trash a pup will run, the better the hound he’ll be, is the general rule...

training one not to run trash is the difference between a dream dog and one that’s just okay

Still brings a big ol grin. He calls this his race truck.

Got her back up and running he's happy. It'll be going back under the knife soon enough. New Isky cam, Btr valve springs, lifters and push rods, 4.88 gears, ported intake manifold, larger Longtubes and some other odds and ends.

A couple phone books to sit on and soup cans duct taped to his feet and he’s ready to go...

Finding the phonebooks might be the hard part ;)

Do you plan to break your pup from running deer or anything?

He’s probably going to be very cold nosed, so he’ll work a lot of close tracks vs. streaking off looking for something hot...

But I’m always of the mind that it’s best to train a purpose built dog to NOT do what they are bred to do if you don’t want them to do that, or redirect that instinct and energy into play or something more acceptable...

Shepherds as frisbee dogs is a good example of redirecting, but shepherds specifically trained NOT to chase livestock is example of making sure their instinct doesn’t cause problems...

The number of problematic border collies and Australian shepherds and healers I’ve seen is a big number because folks just seem to hope their pup won’t want to do what their entire lineage was bred to do

For your hound I’d consider breaking him off deer for sure, unless you just like taking long rides around the country side singing “Heeere Mason...” lol

but also maybe encouraging him to tree squirrels or something like that ... although if he trees up hard I’m not sure I would want that either ... might get a bit tedious listening to that
I do not plan on allowing him to run deer.
Thought about teaching him to hunt shed antlers.. But I don't know. That might get him on the deer trail.
I may be setting my hopes too high .. .we'll see.
I realise I can't expect him to never do what is in his instinct to do. . he needs to be able to do something.
He will never be allowed to just run free range all over everyone else's places.
He can kill all the squirrels he wants as far as I'm concerned. :lau
Having the cat inside has been a pretty good training tool to teach him to "leave it"
And the ducks as well. So hopefully we are on the right track for him to be able to understand when he can and can't do things.

Explain what you mean by "cold nosed" please. I'm not familiar with that saying.

He also loves CARS he wants the romones color changing car wash that shit is $270 bucks heck the color changing cars themselves range from $20-90 idk why this craps so expensive. Alls they do is change color when cold or warm water is put on em I couldn't believe that crap.
