American Gamefowl

Beaver/otter season starts on dec 26th. I’ll set a few traps for mink and muskrat while I’m at it. For now I just set 13 DPs I have around my yard. I’ll set a few mink traps close to the house tomorrow afternoon.

13?! Oh hell you done angered the critter gods for sure... lucky if you catch anything all season now ;)

Always gotta have a whittling knife in case you need to peel a lure stick.

Speaking of knives, I was putting knives away in my knife roll the other day and found this skinner/caper set that I picked up a while back and forgot about

Notice how they say USA... not Finland or China or Timbuktu :lau

Buck lost me many years ago when they started making knives in China. Now they make most in Idaho because I’m pretty sure people just weren’t buying the Chinese crap. I bought a buck slipjoint awhile ago and the shield fell off. I won’t buy another one. I do like that set though.

I’m with you, I’ve carried a buck 703 for over 20 years now... when they stopped making that one, I picked up several so wouldn’t have to cuss too much if I lost or broke mine...

Of the 7 or 8 I have you can see the decline in quality even though they were all still made here...

the last ones came sans badge though, so no worry about it falling off

I take that back. I have a tiny buck neck knife on my predator call lanyard. Just in case I have to do battle with a rogue fox

Kneck knife? That’s just bling, man :p

If you had a pair of people’s britches you’d have lots of pockets ;)

Actually it was on my duck call lanyard for cleaning ducks. It’s the only stainless steel knife I had. I hunt mostly salt water. I didn’t like it hanging with the duck calls though since it just got in the way. On the predator lanyard it’s fine since I rarely reach for a call fast.

@OhZark Biddies have you used them yet?

No not yet, I bought that set cheap, mostly for the caper... but forgot about them until the other day...

I like the size of the caper though...

I’m about to give up on finding my piranta though... so the buck will probably get some use

I did some European skull mounts here recently and with all that work against bone I was really wishing I was using those disposable blades though

Yeah when skinning I use a separate knife for the faces. Usually a sh*tty filet knife.
