I made a huge mistake moving a mailed hatching egg out of under my adult hen who was broody into the incubator... the incubator killed the chick... currently trying again with a different incubator (hen not broody now). Anyhow just wish me luck on this single egg.

If she’s sitting on them quit candling and screwing around with them. Hens know better than you do. The more you mess with them the likelihood of them not hatching increases. Just let her do her thing.

I wanna know about using game hens as broodies for dual-purpose birds that won’t sit. Am thinking especially about using the game hens to brood the eggs of larger breeds for meat.

Around five little game hen cross girls have hatched out of seven chicks. I sold the two cockerels.

And, I have a few more on the way. They are small but very healthy chicks.

I cage broody Mom in with her chicks for a few weeks until they are safe to forage and I can identify the sex.

I find that neutering/spaying helps just like in suburban neighborhoods...
