I just use one of the ibc pens or a dome pen, after the hen starts to set I pull the rooster out so I can spread the nesting hens pens further away from each other

I used the domes last year they worked pretty well. I’m thinking about 4x8 domes this year instead of my 4x4 stag pens

I will I think they’ll work out better and I can raise biddies in them easier.

I have 4 4x8 dome pens but I don’t use them to raise chicks. I use my 4 4x8 wooden pens.
I have all my pens behind electric fencing but the wooden pens have welded wire and hardware cloth around the bottom foot so the chicks can’t squeeze out. Don’t use chicken wire for this because day old chicks can get stuck squeezing out. If you just use 2x4 welded wire the chicks will be running all over the place. I do it sometimes but.....some hens will kill the chicks if they get in their pen especially if they are setting on their own eggs or raising chicks themselves.

Yeah I think that’s what I’ll do. I’ve seen a few pics of them made and they look easy and cheap enough I thought about making one of them hoop coop deals but it’s not worth the money.

Are you wanting to build 4x8 domes? I just built them the same as the 4x4 and ran conduit in the middle. I attached each (2) 10 ft pieces of welded wire with zip ties to the conduit. They’re easier since you can just run the 8 ft 2x4s on each side and only cut one 8ft 2x4 for the ends.

I did put doors on the 4x8 pens though and just use a couple bungee cords to keep them closed.

Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do for right now I’m pretty good at building domes now lol all of mine have doors on them I just use a carabiner and a bungee to keep them closed. I’m gonna hold off on fly pens atleast until I get this god forsaken junky trailer off the yard. I’m gonna build about 12 more dome pens to complete 3 rows of 6 but I would like to build some of the square mexican style stag pens also.
