American Gamefowl

Oh yeah man if you go stomping up to a bird and just reach all threatening like you’d get drilled by every bird I own. Patience pays off. Go slowly.
Yeah it does. Trust me when that sweater turns his buzzsaw lose on your hands it’s no fun time so I let him win and I lost glad I did. That single bird taught me a lot on how to handle a bird.

As far as that rooster goes he may have seen 2-3months of being penned he was basically raised on a cord handled a lot I put him in a pen to see how he was with hens a few times. Couldn’t ask for a better natured bird in general but I did put in the work and I treat all of them as individuals.

I don’t believe the majority of the time it’s the birds doing I think the majority of the time the human messed up somewhere along the lines and just didn’t noticed or won’t admit it even if they did.
That being said I’ve had my fair share of screwy ones along the way, but one can’t blame awhole line or the ones ya got them from 100% either. Once they are yours they are yours.... you breed em you cull em along the way for the the things you dislike. With new crosses you get a wider variety especially if it’s a new cross with birds from totally different people. Everyone has an idea of what they are after it may not be your idea and may not suit you one bit.

What’s here that I’ll breed is because I like them and they suit me from up north, down south and across the ocean. I’m happy with em.

I’ll admit I’ve had heavy hands stomped around and stirred them up I’ve had my mess ups I’ll have plenty more I’m sure a year ago I couldn’t even trim one and now I can get them slick it’s all in doing what works and learning what don’t. If anything the hateful stag will be a learning curve I got a good start with good birds from the get go so I had the upper hand with that now if I can just apply the same patienence and persistence the people they came from did and keep them that way I’ll be moving forward that being said what I have here is all I need I like them and if they can reproduce themselves I’ll be even happier.

But when we moved I had to do something with all of em I culled a crap ton even if I didn’t want too. I enjoy just watching females in general. I’ve got a few here at the house the two mug/blues they are sisters and they go at it just for fun atleast once a day. Real funny to watch em all atleast in my eyes.
I won't be turning these two hens loose for a few years

You had a fine start like I said I don’t believe it’s the birds we all gotta learn. Every year brings a new batch of ideas of breeding into our heads and with that they all are a little different and we keep learning.
No ones giving ya down the road if anything it’s the best thing for ya to hear we all do things a bit differently. Apply it how you see fit, I know a fella that let some birds out before he did to me and they complained about them being mean I think they just sucked at being a rooster whisperer lol and blamed their laziness on the birds.

Yeah I don’t take it the wrong way I take it all as good thoughts what works for one may not another but ya gotta try. If nothing else I know not to breed crazy ass hens anymore and be more selective witch I can now. I have different routes to go I spend more time studying my birds on a daily basis than I do anything else. Bc I don’t want them to be average I want them to be the best they can but that’s gonna take some trial and error.
