American Girl Doll Store in NYC

ep.gif
COST PER NIGHT MID TOWN MANHATTAN average is $450 a night and that is for only 4 people per room. There are 5 people in our family...we quickly learned this world caters to the 2 child family after having our 3rd child. Disney World vacation DOUBLED when we added the 3rd child.

I'll definitely post pictures after we go...

Thank you to all for your responses and tips!

We have 4 kids - we refuse to be held hostage by Disney or anyother hotel chain/company who say they can't accomodate us in one room.

Our kids are too young to stay in a room by themselves. I prefer not to split our family up at all. That may change as the kids get older, but we always look for a room with two double beds and if it's a 'suite' type of hotel, even better. The 6 of us can easily make do with 2 double beds - heck, the kids think sleeping on the floor is fun. If there are 2 double beds and a sofa, that much the better!

When we went to Disney last time, we booked a room for 4 and bought our tickets separately. There were no issues whatever. Dh and one son slept in one bed, and me and 2 kids in the other. Oldest son 'claimed' the floor.

The only time we've gotten two rooms was when we went to europe last fall on a cruise around the meditteranean. You can't exactly 'sneak' in an extra person on the boat. We ended up booking adjoining rooms that had a door between them so it was like a suite rather than single rooms. DH and I took one room, the kids were in the other. The rooms had two lower single berths and two upper berths that swung down out of the ceiling.

I think it's rediculous for a hotel to expect families travelling with small children to split up into two rooms. Now, once the kids get older (like highschool age)- yes, but not when they are younger.

Arlee...I agree. I am not going to give my money to an institution that refuses to cater to larger families. My children are much too young to stay in another room. AND DH and I do not sleep in separate rooms either! I figured I'd just book it saying there were only 3 of us! The two younger kiddos really do NOT count yet! LOL We are going with the Affinia...it is walking distance to AG store from here!
Used a special they were running and saved a few bucks!
This is going to be FUN!

I love going to NYC..Been there 4 times so far.... I toured the Statue by boat once, I like going downtown to 5th Ave. and shopping, Macy is nice when its not crowded and NYC at Christmas time is a mess of people!!.. Will not do that again during that season of joy!!...lol Lots of good shops in the out of the way places, I didn't like China town, Little Italy is okay to eat out.....Ground Zero is a must see....

Cheep...I'm a New York City native...

I'd definitely see the Statue of Liberty but these days they only allow you to go as high as the skirt on the cement platform. It does cost something like $8-10 per person to take the boat to the statue but there is a free option if you don't mind not standing on the island with the statue.

Get on the Staten Island Ferry near Battery park (about a block south of where the Statue ferry leaves) and take the FREE ride from Manhattan to Staten Island (one of New York City's 5 boroughs). It goes very close to the statue and allows nice pictures of it from the water. The ride is about a half hour and they have outside platforms on the boat at the ends.

Then simply get off the boat (or stay on) and make the return trip for FREE as well. Both trips give you great opportunity to take pictures of the Manhattan skyline from the south, the Verrazano Bridge (2nd largest suspension bridge to the Golden Gate in the US) and the Statue of Liberty among many other things....

The cost...absolutely nothing!!! The Staten Island Ferry used to be 50 cents one way but a few years ago they just made it free. I am a Staten island native and all of my family still resides there today.

HEY Thanks BLUEY...

FREE is awesome! I'll definitely take THIS FREE ride...my brood would appreciate it!

No problem....

I had just realized when I saw your post, heck I don't know anything about doll stores but there probably aren't too many folks on BYC from New York City...

Feel free to ask me any other questions pertaining to my hometown...

I live about an hour from NYC and I've only been there a few times

. I'm not a big fan of the city at all, but the few times I've been there, I've had a good time. It's always SUPER nice to return home though...where there are trees and land!

I've never been to the american doll store, but I have a friend who has. She enjoyed it, but if you have some extra money, I would suggest spending it on a broadway show. They are absolutely spectacular and your kids would love it! Definitely worth the money for a ticket!

I would also suggest the museum of natural history. There are tons of interesting streets to walk down and "window shop". Also, if you go around christmas time, you can see the tree and the ice skaters. They really decorate very nicely!

I would echo Chickerdoodle's sentiments about Rockefeller Plaza in the winter.

This is one of my favorite places to go in NYC after Thanksgiving. The shopping district stores on 5th avenue all have displays up by then, there's the big christmas tree and skating in the plaza and it is also situated right on the entrance on Central Park, where one can find a horse drawn carriage to go for a nice cool winter ride.

The nice thing about it is there are many things to see all in a very short walking area...

...but NYC can get bitterly cold in the winter (and as early as November), with the wind whipping through the buildings, so make sure your family dresses warm...

Ok...more questions!
I'm coming from NH...so is there a SUBWAY station that I can park at outside of the city preferably on the North end? I do not want to DRIVE in the city...my family would get a HUGE kick out of riding the subway into the city. We did this for the Boston trip...parked at Elwife sp?? subway station...and carried our roll around suitcase with enough clothes for 2 days. It was perfect!

Also...is there a Broadway theatre that caters to families? I'll have to search it out...

This is thrilling!! So excited!!
