American Idol

You said it perfectly Tex. I am so sad to see him go. I never saw him WITHOUT a smile on his face. He was the one who seemed to be having a blast on that stage, he owned it during every performance. I was consoling my son this morning and reminded him that just because he didn't win this compition doesnt mean he will fade away. I bet he will be snatched up in a heart beat if there isnt already a contract in the works. James Durbin you are a voice and an insipration to people everywhere with any sort of disability and your dreams will come true.

X 2! I really was hoping he would win, but I do know he will continue on with a career in music. His kind of talent will. He was also my DS's favorite, who also has tourettes and ADHD.

Thank you for making this point. Empathy should be felt by all. What great accomplishments this kid has made with the help and support of his wife. I wish him the best. I believe Daughtry was voted out 4th also. I hope that James Durbin has the same sort of career as Daughtry.

I 2nd all the positive things said about James. He was trying so hard to hold it together BEFORE it was announced he was going home. One of the things I loved about him was his likability and the way he always looked like he was having fun. He never seemed fake or snobby, like the last guy who went home. I am positive he will have a successful career, and like Daughtry, I think not winning will be a GOOD thing. He wasn't my favorite, but I did really enjoy his performances. He always made them very entertaining.. what a performer!!!

Out of the top 3, Haley is my favorite. I love her voice. I really like Lauren, too. Scotty, well, I liked his first song a lot. It is the only song he has sung that I enjoyed, but overall, he really annoys me. I was a big fan of his during auditions, too

. I can't watch him sing, but, when he is on the radio, I wont have to

X2 I was very sad to see James go - what a talent and heart that young man has. His career will go far - I personally think he will do better being voted off now. Daughtry is a perfect example of a contestant that didn't win and went on to do far better than the winner of Idol that year. Adam Lambert is another perfect example of this - just look at the success that Adam has had and he didn't win AI either.

As for James' reaction last night - I thought it was great !!! I think it was an honest reaction and he didn't hide that. He was disappointed and devastated and it showed. But I like what he had to say and I saw absolutely nothing wrong with his reaction.

My vote now goes to Haley. Whoever here said they can't stand to watch Scotty sing - X2 !!! The mugging for the camera and that thing he does with his hand/wrist just makes it difficult to watch him.

Anyway - the next couple of weeks will be interesting.

jmo.... i like Scotty. For being 17, he's very mature. he picks good songs, some a little too playful maybe....

i think Lauren needs more growing time... she has a great voice, but she started crying 2 weeks ago being in the bottom 2. she won't be able to sing

Haley, love her or not, she too has a great voice... i like that raspiness.

but

I think Scotty's going to win...

Did Jennifer Hudson win her year? just wondering.

As a parent of 2 Aspie's, James is pure inspiration and I hold nothing but adoration for him! My heart broke w/ him last night and I cried like a baby! Not only is he wickedly tallented but he has overcome so much and done and awesome job! I'm sad that he didn't get the win, because I know to him that was big. (reason my daughter doesn't compete in things because she can't handle even 2nd place!) But at the same time I am happy for him that he will not be bound to the Idol restrictions and contracts forever! He's gonna go far... I will be looking for him!!!!

Aspies emotions are on their sleeve and they are very litteral and blunt. I think he handled it extremely well!!!!! People that do not interact daily or have knowledge of this disorder will never be able to understand just how awesome he was and how amazing it was for him to be there and doing this! They are perfectionists and very socially awkward and many shy away from attention at all! It takes a great desire for him to pull himself out in front of millions of people and show this to the world only to be judged by ignorance!

I really have nothing left to watch for!

I guess out of the 3 left I would pick Hailey. I think a lot of great ones left earlier in the show that should be in the final few!

I told my husband when they picked the top 24 that Scotty was going to win the whole thing. I don't particularly care for his singing because I simply despise country music, but I believe he is going to be a mega-star in country music, and I think that he is a very, very nice young man. I can watch him when he sings the ballads, but I can't look at him when he is singing anything else.

Jennifer Hudson went out fairly early in her season - Simon sure missed that one big time, didn't he? LOL

Here's a look at the past winners, and where they are now.

2002: Season one winner - Kelly Clarkson has toured uber-successfully worldwide as a solo act and is still performing to sold-out houses as a rock star. She has reportedly sold 36 million singles and 23 million albums around the world.

2003: Ruben Studdard, “the Velvet Teddy Bear,” has recorded four studio albums, starred in the 30th anniversary production of the musical “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” and toured last summer with the season two second-place finisher Clay Aiken.

2004: Fantasia Monique Barrino has had a rough personal life and has found her professional life to be a roller coaster. She has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards and had her own reality show on VH1 “Fantasia for Real.” Last August, she was accused of being the other woman in a divorce case and, according to her manager, took “an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid” in a suicide attempt. She has released three studio albums.

2005: Checotah’s Carrie Marie Underwood has racked up more than 70 major awards and is a multi-platinum selling country artist in addition to her hosting duties for the Country Music Awards, singing award-nominated songs for popular films, guest appearances on network TV and acting alongside Dennis Quaid in the new 2011 film “Soul Surfer.” Oh, and she married her favorite hockey player, Mike Fisher, last June.

2006: Birmingham’s Taylor Hicks won the fifth season and, according to popeater.com, has released two studio albums and is playing Teen Angel in the touring production of “Grease.”

2007: Season six winner Jordin Sparks won at age 17, opened for both The Jonas Brothers and Britney Spears’ Circus” tour, earned numerous awards and nominations and has sold more than 9 million singles. Last year, she debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights” and is reportedly working on new songs with John Legend.

2008: Former Tulsan David Cook is looking forward to the release of his new album and is reportedly planning another tour. He’s won Teen Choice Awards, The New Music Awards and Nashville Music Awards and has made numerous public and television appearances. He missed joining the other “American Idol” winners performing a farewell tribute to Simon Cowell on the 2010 season finale of “Idol” because of a charity event in Kansas City. He’s still working for charity and will be return May 1 for his third year in the Annual Race for Hope in Washington, DC. The event “helps raise awareness and funding to benefit the brain tumor community.” Cook’s brother Adam lost his battle with brain cancer in May 2009.

2009: Kris Allen, an Arkansas native, was the first married contestant to win the contest. He’s since gone out on a solo tour and opened for the likes of Keith Urban, OneRepublic, Maroon 5, Barenaked Ladies and Daughtry, also an “AI” alumnus.

2010: Lee DeWyze released his first post-“Idol” album last November and he has two earlier independent albums out. He was the headliner on the “American Idol LIVE Tour” last year.

I'm in shock, I really did not see that coming. I watched a brief clip of his goodbye song on the American Idol website, but can someone please walk me through what happened? I had company and missed the entire show.

Who were the other two in the bottom? How did he react? How did the judges react? What did they say? Fill me in please!

I had such an emotional attachment to James that I don't even care who wins now, although I would prefer to see Scotty or Lauren I guess, never been a Haley fan.

I'm going to hope and assume that the rude comments made earlier were made by someone who did not know about his conditions.

Man, this just sucks.

On a hopeful note, now he will have the freedom to choose his label, someone will definitely pick him up.
