American Reza (Pakistani) Asil

Why is your Asils have red eyes? Did you add American fowl blood?
I wrote a long response to this but it disappeared for some reason. So this “round two” response will not be as articulate.

Short answer is no, I did not breed American Gamefowl into my “Red Asil”, how I refer to my foundational Asil fowl. Though with an American history of about 140 years, it would be naive to think that this was not done regularly across N. America.

If the fowl worked, they were perpetuated; if they did not, they were discarded. It’s that simple.

My Asil were obtained from American breeders, bred straight in America, hence the title of this thread. Most old Asil families along the East Coast are all related, at foundation go back to the initial 1880s imports of Reza Asil, with an obvious selection toward Wheaton “Sonotal” since that time.

Some folks have, by way of working overseas, immigration, and military service imported and maintained distinctive old world, true to type Asil, not blending them into the established Asil families here. I’ve simply not met those breeders nor obtained direct Pakistani or Indian imports; though one of my brood cocks had a Pakistani (imported) sire and shows it with his phenotype.

The thing to consider, is that no matter what a breeder tells a buyer, all one can do is take note of what was said, and breed the fowl. Observe, keep records, adhere to a strict standard and select toward one’s ideal.
