American serama thread!

I bought eggs to give them a try. Big mistake! Looks like all are dead a week into incubation! A few grew embryos but they died for some reason!

I know my humidity dropped a few times from 50 down to like 30 or so. I dunno what I did wrong.

So sorry Larkspur. Try not to beat yourself up. Serama eggs are notoriously hard to hatch. It is unlikely that the humidity drop caused them to die.

Hey, I'm wondering about all the long backs I've been getting. I've invested in some truly exceptional birds from Kate for breeders, and yet I've been getting a large percentage of long backs from their offspring. Here are just two examples.

I'm planning on selling these birds as pet quality for whatever small price I can get for them, because I don't want to breed them. I figure there is always going to be some percentage of undesirable characteristics presenting in offspring, but I'm just wondering -- how many of your birds come out with characteristics that would keep you from breeding them?

NIce Post - should we start a different thread for Serama gentics??
