American serama thread!

My babies are almost a month old now. These pictures were taken last Wednesday. The little cockerel (at least I think it's a he based on the bright red comb he's developed over the past day or two) is on the far left of the group photo.

"Can I help you?"

"I can sing!"

"Big deal, I can dance!"

My rescue baby.

Don't be alarmed if you find a few of your babies missing. I just stole them, that's all.

Hi, I am in N. CA (Chico area) and am looking for a pullet or hen or some fertile eggs. I have a lonely rooster who needs some company. I Don't want to ship birds because of the risk and cost, but I will take a chance with eggs if that's the only way to get some. I have a broody silkie that is dying to hatch something. Not looking for s.q., but a sweet, friendly personality would be nice. If anybody nearby has any girls (or eggs) available, please PM me. Thanks

TWO DIFFERENT PARTIES INTERESTED< SO PROBABLY THIS PAIR IS SOLD. I have a few older chicks ready to sell here https://www.backyardchickens.com/ga...69984/user_id/71354#page=0&sort=display_order

Single birds $25, group discounts available, feel free to ask questions. THANK YOU!

I have a pair of Serama for sale. He ( Fudge Brownie) has lacing on his chest and is shades of brown/orange. He has good upright stance and was hatched 9.13.11 making him 6 months of age. He is actively breeding and loves to crow.
Brownie is paired with a lovely frizzled Serama pullet named Lady Di. She is a lovely light cream color almost white with black tips on her tail. She was hatched 9.3.11. She has not started laying but comb is beginning to redden. Frizzleds are a bit slower to develop than the smooth feathered birds.
I dont have weights on them but they are not overlarge and I would consider them in the small C range. The cubes in the pictures are 14" tall which will give you some perspective. They have been housed inside since hatched but not overly warm around 60-65 degrees and could go outside as soon as it is warm enough in your area.

I would sell the rooster separately but will not sell just the pullet. Best sold as pair $120 includes shipping. Feel free to PM me with questions. I will list on BST in couple of days if noone here is interested. THanks, Ruth

Cute pair Ruth!

It's been quite a while since I visited this thread. I got kind of disgusted with some of the bickering that was going on a while back and decided to spend my time elsewhere. Not only that, but I was kind of disappointed in my seramas. I kept putting eggs in the incubator and NONE of them were fertile. The seramas I have are not quite the quality I had hoped for. Mine are not at all calm and friendly like everyone describes. I thought maybe my birds just weren't happy in their little pen and thought perhaps they would be happier if I let them free range. I turned them all loose.

After they gained their freedom some of the eggs I had gathered while they were still penned up turned out to be fertile. Wouldn't you know. Anyway, I have 5 babies hatched at this point. One is black and I have no clue what color the others will be. They are tiny little things.

After turning them loose one of my roosters decided the warmest place to sleep at night was in with the goats. My DH pulled him out from between the goats several times, but he kept going back. Sure enough, one of the goats rolled over on him one night and he got smashed. The lady I got them from said she would replace him. I had no plans to replace him, but she sent two roosters up with some friends. When I opened the box it was obvious the two roosters was one cockerell and one pullet. She said she didn't have her glasses on when she picked them out and really thought she sent two roosters. Likely story, but what a sweetheart!

Some of my seramas seem on the large side, but these two are pretty small. Still not as typey as I would like, but one of my older birds I think is typier than I thought and I think I might use him for breeding. I'm still not satisfied that any of my hens are very typey, but they are just so darn cute scratching around in the barn. Since mine never had much human contact when they are small they are not cuddlers, but they really aren't too flighty, either, and I think they really enjoy their freedom, even though I notice they don't venture out of the barn. I guess I have some very cute little barn ornaments.

Hi Ivywoods - I had the same problem with my first hatch. Two of the seven made it to lockdown then quit on me. This last hatch, four out of eight hatched. I was so thrilled, I don't care how they turn out. Mine aren't exactly cuddlers either, but they are still babies and the first "house" chickens I've ever had so by comparison to my free ranging outsiders - they are very friendly. The cockerel is still a little shy. All of them went into panic mode when I reached in to handle them but I think that is instinctive - duck and run from anything overhead trying to grab you! It helped when they no longer needed the heatlamp and I could put them on a table (in a 20L fishtank) so they could watch all the comings and goings on "eye level."

I'm hoping to get a nice adult pair in late April/early May after the Cajun Classic. Can't wait to have full grown birds as well as my little peeps! Space constraints for winter housing will limit me to a dozen birds (four trios), but that's okay. It's a manageable number to handle and keep friendly.

Glad you came back! After the forum upgrade a lot of folks migrated to other places...it's been pretty quiet here compared to before.
