American serama thread!

He's about 1 1/2 lb.  I listened to him and the other roo's before I picked him out and he didn't seem "that" loud, but I think it was just the openness of where he was kept.  But, once he was at my house, his crow seemed magnified 10X :barnie     I took him with us to pick out his girlfriend and even Ray (who I got the hen from) said he had quite a set of pipes on him.  I don't expect a "quiet" rooster, but one who's crow doesn't carry so far would be nice, considering we aren't supposed to have roosters    I don't think his crow is carries far enough, loud enough, to bother any neighbors from the "box" he is in all day, I just can't let him out :/    Which is why him and his girlfriend come inside every evening/night and get to roam the house (thank goodness for chicken diapers :D )   Thankfully, he doesn't start crowing until around 7am.  Goooood Rooster

Man that is one BIG roo! TOO FUNNY about Ray saying: "hes got a set of pipes on him".... :lau
Heck he might be crowing loud to make SURE he gets to come in the house at night! Them seramas are sneaky about that stuff..LOL Oh heck, they are just more fun when you can bring them in.....Hopefully no one will notice his "pipes"....:love :cd

hey i was wondering what colors are accepted in the American standard of perfection. i read some-wear that only the whites are accepted, but really like the dark browns. i also wanted to know if to be a white it had to be pure white or if it could have some other color mixed in. and can dark brown produce white offspring. i don't have any seramas yet, but love the breed and want to get a breeding pair because absolutely none i no of has them and their so amazing.

First off: :welcome from Sunny California! Where do you live? Seramas are the BOMB! You will be hooked in no time at all!
As of now the only color accepted by APA is white for in cage showing. Now when you get to Table Top Serama showing any color is acceptable. The serama comes in 2,000 color variations SO, when you hatch you never know what yer gonna get. LOL A good place to start is scrolling thru this thread for the SOP [standard of perfection] for "Malaysian" type and "American" type serama. Also once we know where you live, hopefully there will be someone close to you that raises seramas. This is info in a nutshell, there is SO MUCH more to learn about them....:love Hope that helps......

Brought in the birds last night, because it got cold! The girls are laying a bit better, and I didn't want to screw it up. Here's the wheaties getting comfortable for the night.

thanks. after posting this i did a bit more research and found a couple but don't really like the birds. i live in new Brunswick, Canada. would you suggest that i should buy them and try to breed them. i was also wondering how do you train a serama to stand properly. i still have to finish building the coop though so it will be a will before i get them.

i thought i might be losing ruth this afternoon and have decided to bring her inside permanantly- boaz has been over breeding her, and today she was a mess- still not sure if she is too stressed or what- soooo... i have decided to rehome boaz, pick up only though, he needs a harem

Ruth-

Boaz- from Junes flock- he really needs more than i can give him

pm me if interested

That's a shame - he's sure a pretty thing. I'm sure you'll have no problem placing him. Your little Ruth reminds me so much of my tiny mottled...

i was watching him tonite, and thinking maybe i could put him with a few of my banty cochins? poor little guy is in hormone overload- and poor ruth, not sure if maybe she is eggbound? gave her a bath, a tummy rub and oil on her vent, she's in her cage covered with towels, i sure hope she is better in the morning
