American serama thread!

Oooh, Pete the pest is a cutie! From my amaturish eye, he looks perfect!

How exciting, dncarr99! I am kinda bummed that my batch didn't grow, and have to wait 2 more weeks for another, however, I'm excited to get another try at it and can't wait to see tiny fuzzy butts!!!

Sounds so adoreable, Aschenfire, I want some tiny fuzzies so bad!

That's so weird, smoothmule?? I haven't heard anything?? I'll ask my postman today when I see him?? See if he knows about it and why??

I have no information on this at this time however, will verify on Monday. It should be posted in a bulletin at the PO or online however, I did not see it online.

So I finally have my fiancée convinced to let me have a rooster. The guy that I recently bought my 5 month old hen from has a 5 month old rooster for sale who is her brother. I don't know if it's recomended to breed a hen to her brother so I wanted to ask if someone here could give me a little more info on the subject before I buy him. He also has her dad for sale who's a year and 3 months old. Advice please? :/

so here she is!!!! i am so in love with her. shes 5 months old and will be a b class when full grown (or so im told). her parents come from Grady Taylor she is the sweetest little bird and so good with my son.shes so sweet and docile that i almost have my fiancee convinced to let me have a rooster! what do you all think of her?! im excited to hear your oppinions.
400

and here are her parents (they would not sit still!)

Her papa sure is a pretty thing! Your girl is cute...at 5 months, she'll still have a bit of filling out to do. I'd like to see how she's looks a bit more posed. I've had seramas less than a year, so I'm still learning. Her back doesn't look too bad to me - could be shorter of course. If you add a roo, try to find one with yellow legs if "correct" leg color will eventually be your goal. I don't breed, but I think I've read that siblings really shouldn't be mated, but that father/daughter was okay...you'll have to do some research on that though... Congrats on your new little sweetie!

Question to you: Do you want to hatch babies? If not, go for it! If you would like to hatch babies then I would be hesitant, BUT you can always get a non-related hen to breed with Mr. Roo. You can NEVER have too many chickens........ oops, ;) :D

You new babies are totally ADORABLE!!!! and it just keeps getting better and better the more you get to know eachother. :yesss:

As far as inbreeding goes, brother to sister is the highest form of inbreeding. The mating of daughter to father would less, some call that line breeding. A good book to get on genetics is "Genetics of the Fowl" by F. B. Hutt. According to the book, the first generation does not have too much of a neg. affect but it will consentrate the gene pool. Good for narrowing down rare trairs, bad for expanding possible health problems in the next generation. Oh, and I also remember that the inbred offspring can lay less and become smaller.
