American serama thread!

I would put him back in the bator and let him rest. Because he did not hatch himself the feet did not "work out" pushing him around the inside of the shell while he was zipping. Walking on the hardware cloth in the bator seems to help the toes uncurl if there is not a problem with them.
I put him back in last night and he took a little while to get his bearing but after letting him stand up in my hand for a little bit it didn't take him too long to figure things out =)

What do y'all this of this ? I can get it any size I want this is 30inches by 60 inches and I was thinking 30 inches high.
Oh those are the NIC panels I was talking about? How much are they charging for this cage? At target you can get 23 of those square panels for $20. The bottom part is just chloroplast. That's what all the guinea pig people use as NIC cage bottoms. You can buy it at most hardware stores for pretty cheap it's also the stuff they make all the heavy duty election signs out of so you can recycle those as the bottom too. It IS really super slippery for little animal feet though so ya have to use bedding of some sort.
Quote: Thank you! I did =) I actually just put toilet paper down because I can lay it in a wrapping motion around the middle thingy. I forgot to do it before lockdown so I put it down as soon as I opened the batr to help the second little guy come out. Everyone's legs/feet look fine now.

So I have moved the two little guys into their temporary brooder (the BIG brooder is outside and until they are a few weeks I don't want to put them out there with just the two of them, I'm afraid hey will freeze)
The one thing I forgot to get was a thermometer! Are they relatively inexpensive? Where should I put it?
They seem to be acting just fine. They are chirping like mad and waddling all over the brooder. Even starting to peck at food and water! How do I know if it is too cold? It doesn't feel nearly as warm as the incubator. Im wondering if I need to just leave them in there?

I was also wondering if this is normal sleeping behavior... they seem to like collapse on the ground with their face in the floor! It's sorta scary looking

That's not what the company called them, but it is a guinea pig cage. That one pictured costs $102 for everything shown. I will probably use sand in the bottom. That's what I use for my big girlz outside. I like it because it cleans easily.

Inside your incubator, you could use that rubbery nonslip shelf liner. Its washable and would provide good traction for little feet. Those chicks are so cute! You must be having a blast watching them.

Oh, Oh, a dyed in the wool Silkie breeder just fell in love with Seramas
I had to share pics of my new pair. Salt and Pepper. Both just youngsters.
Look like salt and pepper shakers!

Darned if they don't look like they need to be on the table! And I don't mean fried!
So the breed has another convert, but they share their home with the Silkies.
Beautiful birds on this thread, I hope to see lots more pics from everyone.

I just switched my chicks to shavings and they love them. I thought this little one was dead at first, but he was just relaxing in the shavings nest he made.

New chocolate serama/d'uccle/silkie cross chick. There are also some mauve chicks, which is blue and chocolate on same bird.

It doesn't feel nearly as warm as the incubator. Im wondering if I need to just leave them in there? If you have a warm spot and cool spot in the brooder, you can watch their behavior to see if it's too hot or cold. If they're huddled under the lamp, they're too cold, if they are trying to get away from the lamp, it's too hot, if they move around and look comfortable, loosely laying down relaxed, they're ok.

It's what makes chicks so freakin adorable, LOL, they fall asleep standing up and down they go! too funny and cute! But also why you have to be really careful with their water, they can drown from their heads falling into the water, so it's safest to use something like marbles in there so they're not as likely to fall deep enough into the water to drown.

Grrr, I think I have two boys, and I don't know why but the bigger boy has taken to biting the little one on the neck all the time! I'm sure, at just under 3 weeks, they can't be having sexual urges, but it seems extra mean for pecking order stuff, especially since the bigger one used to be so sweet to the younger one :(

Ugh, I just realized!!! I've had a regular bulb on them for quite some time as my heating lamp bulb blew out!!!! I gotta get another red bulb, I'll bet that'll stop the aggression!!!

Stupid me, I should have realized and not been cheap!!!

I know, mine loved it when I finally let them at the shavings, it was like they were in Disneyland, LOL
This little guy isn't happy about being separated from his buddies. He's almost 3 weeks old now.
Why is he separated?
