American serama thread!

Where did you get him from?

I got him from my breeder as an egg. he came out of a very very small tan egg, my breeder thought was a silkie. he always gets his egg identifications wrong....I know he has BTW japs, but I don't know about seramas....ive never relly looked if he had any

Breeding a silkied serama to a silkied serama will produce all silkied serama. Breeding a smooth serama to a silkied serama will produce 50% silkied offspring and 50% smooth offspring.

The silkied serama is not ABA/APA approved at this time but more or less in the "works" to be approved. Personally, my favorite of the feather varieties. I find them to be smaller naturally in size and have wonderful temperaments.
I'm actually curious about breeding an actual silkie chicken - not a silkied serama - to a smooth feathered serama. My serama roo has fertilized the eggs of all my girls and my silkie chicken started laying and her eggs are all fertile so I tossed a couple in the bator.

Looks like a serama to me! I have them.

I hope so! I haven't relly seen seramas there at his place....unless he keeps them hidden! LOL
she may just turn out as a long legged Jap bantam, but I HOPE its a serama!

You really won't know until fuzzy is older..so far he has the yellow beak/legs and his posture suggests serama as well. Post in a month and lets see the little shaver again.. :love

okie dokie! thanks for all your help! I hope its a serama.....if not its a relly long legged jap. LOL

Last night I went out to feed and my tiniest hen,a 2yr old black silked, was acting "funny". Eager to eat, good color, but unsteady, not moving around very well??? This morning she was dead. I don't know why. They others are all fine. None of the minis are laying so I doubt it was an egg problem. Any ideas?

Without knowing ALL the symptoms it is hard to figure out over cyberspace.... Two items DO come top mind, given her age there is the possibility of Ovarian Cancer / internal laying / or what is loosly called: Sudden Serama Death which is basically a stroke or seizure type occurance....SO sorry you lost her, it always hurts... :hugs

Well that might be interesting, I think....

Why don't you ask this breeder if she had seramas? I am not knowledgable on Jap banties so do not know what color legs and beak are common...
beak and leg color is yellow/orange. They also have short legs and long wings. Thats why im tied. Uuugh. Ill be sure to email him later and see if he has seramas
