American serama thread!

I went to my first show with my Seramas. I was well recieved and my white frizzled roo was awarded best Serama and reserve best in shiw. This was sanctioned show by the ABA. I was so please. Here are some pictures Psycho the prize winning roo. In this picture the ribbon says best in show. The hung the wrong ribbon. Hes was reserve best, Jackson who is my roo was second best Serama and best Roo This girl was third best pullett Second best pullett Best Pullet

Ok so I have been doing my research,but wanted to go over it on this thread to and get advise from first hand accounts done of you may have had.

I just got my first pair of serama chickens about a month ago. They are not show quality but are very beautiful to me anyway! They are both class c and my he. May be a little over weight.

I am wanting to hatch a few eggs from them.
The read watch I have done has told me that...
#1 seramas do not breed true to color or size so I could get any color chick and any thing from micro to class c out of them.
#2 that serama eggs can be hard to hatch and are sedative as chicks.
#3 that her first egg ever latex could be fertile as long as the rooster has mated with her at least 2 days b/4 her egg was latex. (Yes I have seen them mate about a week b/4 her first ever egg)
#4 that her eggs can potentionally be fertile up to 3 weeks with another mating ,(tho my rooster is with my hen all the time).
#5 eggs if kept correctly can possible stay "good" up to 3 weeks b/4 you incubate them, but the sooner you incubate them of course the higher hatch rate you could have.
#6 while you are collecting your eggs you need to keep the cool and safe. But not in the fridge.
#7 candle the eggs around 7 days and again at 14 and not more after 17 days once in the incubator.

My QUestions...
Do you agree or disagree with most of the research I have listed above?

Do you need to rotate the eggs while you are collecting them b/4 you put them in the incubator?

How do you rotate the eggs once in the incubator?

How often do you rotate the eggs once In The incubator?

Anything that I need to know that I haven't listed it asked yet?

well, i have better luck under a broody than a bator when seramas are being hatched-not really sure why, bt my guess is they are very sensitive-


this little lady is Contessa and gave her a bator egg when she went broody- hatched yesterday

Not sure where you got all of your research, some of this I have never heard. Eggs are not good up to 3 weeks. I never let mine sit more than 10 days before they are put in the incubator and preferably 3.

After collecting eggs, bring them in the house and let them sit at room temperature and no, do not turn them. I rotate eggs in the bator twice per day, 12 hours apart.

I just bought a flock of 14 grown Seramas for $30 (jealous?) Looked through a few Serama threads and am more than happy to stay AWAY from most of it

Not to disparage some of you, it just isn't the hill that I want to die on today

They're cute little birds and I'll enjoy having them around and I couldn't give a hoot whether they're American, Malaysian, Traditional, Black-Legged, Green-Legged, Yellow-Legged or whatever the heck the case may be.

Glad to see that there are some folks who just like having gentle little gardeners like the Seramas.

Seramas for pets and Seramas for breeding and show are just two different things... no need for anyone to be down on either.

Mine are wonderful little pets! I just love them! Agreed show or pets be proud of both!!! They bring happiness to there people I wouldn't mind do small shows for fun!
