American serama thread!

I have a question for anyone! I have 2 seramas 1 cockerel that started crowing at 7 weeks. The other is a pulley. Her face is getting pretty red and he's trying to do his thing... Here's the issue they are only 12 weeks tomorrow . Do I just have a aggressive cockerel or is this normal for this breed?

It is possible at that age that he is just getting old enough to want to start "Breeding" His pullet, Cockerels tend to mature a little faster than pullets, It is Most likely that is the reason, I have only met one aggressive serama, and he is perfect with people, and they are NOT Breeding him

If he does continue to become aggressive, I would not keep him for MY Breeding, But that is just my choice

Last summer one of my serama pullets started to lay at three months and went broody after her sixth eggs was laid-the eggs were fertile. If your hen is not trying to get away from the rooster-squatting to mate-your rooster is not aggressive-the hen/pullet is getting ready to lay eggs (as suggested by her red face). Is her comb and wattles also getting bigger and redder? My other pullets started to lay between 4 and 5 months-and all went broody very soon; within a week to ten days after starting to lay. Serama mature much faster than other breeds of chickens. Be sure to promptly collect eggs if you don't want them to brood.

Roos are great! No need to :( . I'd take a he any day!
I was told here when she was around 4-5 weeks that she looks like she will be a she.
I can get to Manteca! That should be fun! Maybe I will look at showing Poe. I should look up information.:caf

That would be awesome if you could go!

He is most likely just maturing like others have said. My rooster is getting to be the same way as the pullets get closer to laying. As long as he is not being overly aggressive, it is most likely normal behavior. If the roo starts to pull out her head feathers or things similar to that, then you might need to assess the situation again. It's most likely fine though. Like I said mine are getting to be like that to.

I have kept them inside. They are just starting to range in the bantam coop. That's not really ranging. But for them I guess it's a good amount of space while the others get use to them.
He's very sweet with me and kids. However , it's like over nite literally he started to try. I'll get pictures of her face today. It's good to hear they do mature earlier. I'm going to keep giving him loves but don't want to breed out mean chicks.

Roosters will also strive for dominance. Does the hen fight him not accepting his dominance/not necessarily mating, just in general. . Most times the dominance gambit is quickly taken care of in a few hours. My young roosters of five months still have not won dominance over the older hens; with the hens their age dominance in favor of the rooster was settled swiftly.

No she is not accepting him! Good point! Is he fertile ? Or is it the same waiting period as a standard chicken? I guess I was shocked !

I rushed into my came dee to see how old they were. I've had 5 Roos never has one tried this early. My next test is to get them I. With my Mille Fluer and Cochin. My Mille likes to sit at the entrance of her coop and bite the big hens if they try to enter. I'm worried she will give them a lot of ****! I don't want them to get hurt! Mille will most likely be the one to shut him down for a bit. We will see ... I do want more seramas

There is no standard for maturity on serama. Time passes too fast-I said my serama are 5 months old now. They will be seven months old December 1st. The pullet that started to lay at three months (7 months now) is/was the same age as the rooster. Both birds were 3 months when the pullet started to lay. Mating had been occurring for a couple of weeks. The eggs were fertile, but did not hatch due to intrusions, bad luck, and maybe their young age.

My first serama chicks hatched last month when the birds were almost six months old.

Does anyone know how I can contact castle delight Seramas? Their website and Facebook page appear to be down. I was hoping to order eggs for the New Years hatch a long.
