American serama thread!

This morning I noticed my Japanese bantam has started to brood (I replaced her eggs with dummy eggs) and it made me think of your post. Has your hen started to brood yet?
No, But I have not gone out there since yesterday afternoon at about 4.... she was sitting on the nest when I left though! I will go check in a bit

I brought home 9 <1 day old Serama chicks today. Boy they are tiny! The fatal gene has me walking on eggshells and checking on them a lot. Any serama chick advice or experiences are welcome! I also have 4 "tribble" serama eggs coming in the mail this week.
Good Luck! I think the fatal gene mostly effects chicks who have not yet hatched... But I am not sure!

Speaking of, I set mine last night! They were very well packaged, none broke. I could only set 11, They all look great and got here super quick! Some were so fat that setting all 12 would interfere with how my turner works (mini adv. brinsea.) I'm sure there will be a clear I can pull at the end of the week to set it as a late one. Thank you for the opportunity to hatch some tribbles!
I set 12 eggs in my mini advanced, Why can't you set all 12?

Hens are finally starting to lay again. And I left the eggs where they lay them. And I think a hen is debating on whether or not to sit on them.

The fatal gene only affects eggs before hatching. Don't confuse tiny with frail. My serama chicks are 10-16 grams when they hatch. Only one serama chick fatality in the last eight months. Hopefully you will find yours to be as hardy.Good luck with the eggs and the new chicks.

My smallest hen lays eggs the same size as the bigger hens. Have any of you had this happen?

Yes, All my hens, which range in size dramatically, lay eggs about the same size-so much so that I can not tell whether the egg came from the largest hen or the smallest one. So far my hens have laid their eggs in separate nests making it easy to differentiate between them.
