I've got 4 eggs due tomorrow under broodies and 12 in the bator due in a couple of weeks plus my 2 one week olds. I'm having a ton of fun!

On the serious side, I would like to take the 4(hopefully) babies that are under the broodies and move them to a brooder because I am worried about them being so small and under bantam broodies. They are fenced off in the main coop but I am still worried about them. I just feel so bad taking them from the mama's after a couple of days. What do you all think?

I had thought I had found the perfect baby, a little black frizzle serama chick - exactly what I wanted. So I emailed and the lady who posted the ad wrote back saying she had sold ALL her seramas the previous week.

If theres a chance they might get crushed i would take them for sure moma hen will be over it after a few days ! no worries .

Chicklette- Can you fence off a part of the coop for the momma and the babies. They really are going to scream for a few days after being with mommy. If you are going to take them I would take them when they hatch. My next project is a brooder pen for momma's and babies.

if they cry just means you have to hold them more and be there momma ! thats not so bad ! chicklette .

I have taken all my chicks away from my broodies.

Just make sure you leave them with mom long enough to get all dry and fluffy. I usually wait 24-48 hours and try to move a couple at a time. The babies do fuss some but seem to do better if they are not alone.
I have this crazy broody girl that has been sitting on staggered hatches for weeks. She has been a huge help, no worrying about the incubator! I adore this bird and her service as a broody is priceless...makes me love her even more! Here she is sharing her nest and her baby....
